One last Snowfall (I hope)

I woke up early this morning to a sugar dusted world.

I forced myself to go out and feed the birds. It was so cold and I couldn't quite wake up.

Of  course I stepped in doggie doo on the way to the bird feeder.

Don't you hate that?

But the little birds were so grateful.

The cats don't quite know what to do when it snows. I love to watch them pick their way across the snow, shaking each paw with every step. Ling Ling is especially prissy. But she wanted to be outside, so her wish was granted. She is quite spoiled. But look at that little face. Just as sweet as can be. I can't help but spoil her.

The clouds are very low in the sky today. The weather has been very moody. One day it is sunny and warm, the next it is snowing. All weekend Hubby and I worked outside in mild sunny weather, picking up branches from the ice storm. It is very overwhelming. But we cleaned up an area that was most important. The top of the driveway and alongside the road. We filled the back of the pick up truck 4 times.

It looks much better now.

But I have 300 feet of driveway to finish. All lined with broken trees. I have one side almost done. I've been going out myself and doing a little here and there whenever the weather is mild, while Hubby is away at work.

We have gigantic neat piles of branches waiting for the chipper.

It is very hard work and my body can only do so much at a time.
But I am in no way complaining. I am very grateful that the house wasn't damaged or we weren't hurt. This week has been a terrible week across our country with Tornadoes causing so much heartache and loss of life.

I have nothing to complain about.

I have these sweet little faces to bring a smile.

And my crocus are starting to bloom. Even in the snow.

And I have daffodils to remind me that spring is just around the corner. (This picture was taken last week)

And last night Hubby brought home a package from the Post Office. Inside were all these little gifts from my sweet sister-in-law, T, all the way from N.H.

Just look at that sweet little sachet! The scent of Lavender, mmmm! And a beautiful photo all framed and ready to place close by as a reminder of how much we miss our dear ones.

So I will be busy creating a Thank you card and writing some letters.

So let it snow!

How is the weather where you are?

  1. This morning (and last) we woke up to a sharp frost, and some ice inside our velux windows. But we've had sun! So it's been lovely.

It sounds as if you have been making great progress with your clean-up. I'm sure it must be overwhelming at times but you have the right attitude - little by little, and be grateful it wasn't worse.

My heart has been aching for the poor people in the path of those tornadoes. Having spent four years in the Midwest, I have been close to tornadoes and even when they are a mile away it's terrifying. I thought the story of the mother who saved her children and lost her legs was amazing. Yet another proof, as if any more were needed, of the power of love.

Your crocuses look lovely. Someone at church told me the other day that the reason there are fewer yellow crocuses than purple ones is that the birds eat them. Have you ever heard such a thing?

  2. What a beautiful set of shots! Yes, I do hate stepping in doo... and the kitties shaking their paws are cute! Sorry you sustained so much tree damage, it will take awhile for those scars to heal, but yes, we've much to be thankful for, and do pray for those in the Mid-West... Thank you for sharing on 'Weekly Top Shot.' I hope you'll come share again next week...

  3. Hi Christine, It sounds like you are having very much the same weather, more or less. we might be at the same latitude, I have to check on that.

Yes, the tornadoes have been terrible. Very frightening and so many families affected. The story about the Mother losing her legs is so tragic. Testimony to a Mother's devotion.

I am not sure about the birds eating the crocus, but I know the squirrels consider them a delicacy. That is why I have them in pots on my deck. I must have at least two dozen squirrels! It makes sense that the birds would like them, too! Gardening is such an unpredictable pursuit, but so rewarding! xx

  5. The weather is fickle here, too - though no snow. The driveway can wait - you have writing to do! <3
