Gettin' Cozy

It's starting to get noticeably cooler now in the mornings and evenings.

I'm feeling like I want to make things cozy inside.

I want to start sewing and baking and crocheting once again.

In our perpetually rainy winters, there is plenty of time for that.

But since the sun has been shining, I have put all that aside.

I've been gathering herbs to dry for the winter months of soups and stews and sauces.

Every day I pick a few more ripe blackberries to add to the freezer for hot bubbling cobblers and pies.

Hubby has been splitting and stacking for warm cozy fires.

The soup tureen and casserole dishes will soon be put to regular use.

The wood box will be filled and the wool sweaters unpacked.

The teapot will be put into service to warm up the insides.

There's nothing like a warm welcoming home to come in from the cold.

I think I'm really looking forward to Fall.

What about you?

How do you make things cozy for Fall?

  1. We've had quite a bit of rain the last few days and things have really cooled off dramatically. Warm sweaters are being worn everyday and right now I have a blanket wrapped around me. I'm loving it so far, but I'm sure I'll get tired of the cold soon enough! I'll just bake something yummy in the oven and close the kitchen door to trap the heat in. That always works! :)

  2. Oh I loved the photo journey of how your get ready for fall...makes me want to move up there and 'winterize'....our winters don't start until about mid-January...really cool weather might hit us in November. However, we are getting cooler breezes in the morning and evenings...which had me changing out the blankets on the couch to ones that are a bit heavier and cozier ;)

  3. I can see you are ready for autumn and winter Karen. In Holland it's slowly getting colder as well. Especially at night.

    Wish you a happy weekend!

  4. Beautiful images to help ease into autumn mood, thank you! :-)

I love to hang on to every last thread of summer, but once Master Fall arrives, I find it easy to settle into the season.

    A wonderful weekend to you,
    Merisi

  5. We've had some nice sunny days recently, but the mornings and the evenings are getting chilly. I like to decorate with pumpkins as well in the fall. I bring out my sweaters and heavier jackets. We don't have a fire place, but I like candles. They give a bit of that warmth that you get from the fire.

  6. Dearest Karen,
Guess my ingredients for a cozy fall are about the same as you are using! Except that it takes usually a little longer before those cool; sweater-weather days arrive here in the south east.
    Hugs to you,
    Mariette

  7. Such a warm and inviting home you have, Karen - just the place for a cup of tea on a cold day.

I love fall - it's my favorite season. I wanted to name our daughter Autumn (born in November), but Norm would not hear of it.

I haven't done much since living overseas because most of my belongings are in storage - except I did bring along my mugs for "Changing of the Mugs." haha http://stacyallbritton.com/2012/04/18/changing-of-the-mugs-spring/ It's not much, but it's something.

The good news is, there will be no Changing of the Mugs this autumn because we are in the process of moving back to Louisiana (and even my mugs are in storage now). Maybe I'll be able to tell you about preparing for winter. I hope so! <3

  8. What a lovely, story-telling way to get prepared for autumn!

  9. What a beautiful post celebrating this change of season. Here in Aberdeen we are just thrilled to have our central heating back, having sat by the open fire all day and evening for the past week! I'll be planting bulbs (in theory), and maybe making some pumpkin muffins and soups. We definitely need to swap our summer clothes for our winter clothes now. It was nearly a frost yesterday morning!

Your blackberries and herbs both look like such treats to look forward to in the winter.

    Happy equinox, Karen!

  10. Hi Karen,

You have done a wonderful job making everything look so cozy at your home. I'm looking forward to having more time to stamp. We use to have a woodstove and I remember the days of stacking wood. We since converted to propane. Love your herb rack and come winter you will have a feast of blackberries.
