My latest News Tribune Column came out today! You can read it here:

Can you find where there is a missing word?

Hey, things happen!

How many of you have read books with spelling errors?

I can attest that no matter how many times you proof read something, sometimes these things happen.

I hope you enjoy my column this week! I think some people can relate.

  1. I really enjoyed your article Karen, I can almost see those deer waiting patiently for you to leave so they could munch on the goodies. It reminds me of the time I planted sunflowers. The local squirrels were sure I had provided this treat just for them.

  2. Love it. This is sure to be the story of our garden this year! I have a thing for all the "weed flowers" around here too though, so it will all work out just fine.

  3. I didn't find the missing word - so that just goes to show that the brain fills in the blanks!

A very enjoyable read, Karen. You may not have home-grown vegetables, but you have a beautiful landscape to admire every day.

You know, I wonder how the pioneers made it on this continent - a lot of help along the way, I suppose. <3

  4. Oh well done! I love how you distill so much time and hard work into a lesson you can laugh about now. You paint such a vivid picture of your "critters" and of the two of you (plus dogs) madly running around in the futile quest to protect your crops.

It made me wonder, how did our ancestors survive, though? Armed guards?

Oh and no I didn't spot the missing word either.

  5. Thank you all for your kind and thought provoking comments! I have often wondered the same thing about how the pioneers managed these things. I guess maybe guns were involved or higher fences. But I know that many, many of them barely survived, and mostly on one or two survival crops like corn or potatoes. Maybe the people who lived in the forest traded pelts or meat for some of their supplies. People in town had it easier, as there were less wild animals roaming around. How do people on farms today keep animals out? I shudder to think....

Thank you for stopping by! Your comments are important to me and are very much appreciated. xx Karen
