Happy St. Patrick's Day, Dear Friends!
As you hum a few bars of
'These Irish Eyes are Smilin'
I'll leave you with some Irish Proverbs to mull over
whilst sipping your Irish coffee:)
xoxo
The tongue ties knots that the teeth cannot loosen.
The best looking-glass is the eyes of a friend.
There's many a good tune played on an old fiddle.
Never give cherries to pigs or advice to fools.
Reputations last longer than lives.
All happy endings are beginnings as well.
And now hum along to my favorite Irish ballad;
Danny Boy
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling,
From glen to glen and down the mountainside,
The summer's gone and all the roses falling,
'Tis you, 'tis you must go and I must bide,
But come ye back when summer's in the meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with snow.
'Tis I'll be there in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh Danny boy, Oh Danny boy I love you so.
And when you come and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead - and dead I well may be,
Ye'll come and find a place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me;
And I shall hear though soft your tread above me,
And all my grave shall warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall live in peace until you come to me.
xoxo
An Old Irish Blessing for you <3
May love and laughter light your days,
And warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
Wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
With joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
Bring the best to you and yours!
Erin Go Bragh!
xoxo
Today I am cooking a corned beef and cabbage
dinner in the crock pot
served with Irish soda bread, of course!
xoxo
P.S. I really enjoyed reading your experiences
with gardening in response to my last post :)
We truly are kindred spirits <3
Thank you for your sweet friendship xoxo

Thanks a lot for this post and your blessing, you are very kind!!! We don't celebrate it here, but next Saturday the 19th of March we celebrate Saint Joseph. Until about 15 years ago it was a National festivity, but many Christian celebrations have been eliminated. We follow with this tradition at home, my husband's and my son's names are the same, Joseph, so, I usually make the traditional biscuit cake for them and we have lunch in family. Happy Day of Saint Patrick and Hugs from Spain
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful vintage cards, a real delight. Not living in Ireland or having Irish descendants we do not tend to celebrate St Patrick's day but love some of the beautiful décor I have seen on a lot of blogs. Have a good day.

Wonderful post, Karen...I enjoyed the poems, quotes and songs. I lost my cousin Danny a few months ago. I thought it was so sweet when the band played Danny Boy at his wedding. I miss him so and that song will always hold a special space in my heart.

Aw, Jane. I am so sorry. Such a beautiful song to remember your sweet Danny Boy by. It's so hard to lose those we love. We try to go on without them, but some days are harder than others. Take care, my friend. xo Karen
