A Country Drive with Good Fences

Hello, Dear Friends, we are having
beautiful sunshine in these first
days of fall,
so come along with me and we
will take a country drive through
the farmlands of western Washington State
near Mt. Rainier.

The pumpkins have been harvested
under blue skies as we enjoy this
lovely season.

You can see the first hint of color
in the trees.

This flimsy barbed wire fence seems
very inadequate for this herd of cows.....

but when this is your home,
why would you want to leave?

Can you see the para-glider?
It's a beautiful day for sight-seeing!

Lovely patina on this old barn.
I wish my walls were this color :)

An uncut field with a modern barn
and fencing in the distance.

A faded barn with silo
on a once thriving dairy.
Now a few lucky cattle call
this home.

A beautiful green, but empty paddock,
surrounded by modern homes.

I can see a soccer ball and goal nets
by the gorgeous purple trees.

A happy dog, enjoying the drive.
(Golden Retriever with ears blowing in the wind :)

Mt. Rainier in the distance.

This would make a pretty painting....

The corn is high!

A nice variety of fencing with a
beautiful hedge.

A llama guards a field
as we travel the last
3 miles to home.

There were several more lying
in the grass with their long necks
raised like periscopes.

A mountain meadow
near my home as we wiz by.

Ramblin' Man saw elk here recently
on his way home.

The welcoming committee....
Whitey Bear and Kai.

Home Sweet Home!

xoxo

  3. It was wonderful seeing those beautiful blue skies as we have had rain and dark dreary days for it seems like weeks. Mt. Rainier is beautiful. And I don't think I have ever seen so many pumpkins in one place before unless it was a field where they hadn't been harvested....Beautiful drive as always...

  10. Thank you for your taking me on a drive through your beautiful part of the world. Oh my, glorious Mt Napier rising from the mountains, those wonderful barns dotted here and there in the landscape, row upon row of bewitching pumpkins and those cute Llamas peeping out of the long grass and then returning home to your welcoming front door....I have had a lovely little sojourn; thank you, Karen!

  12. Hi Karen: I enjoyed seeing some of your beautiful area. How lovely it must be to call that 'home'.
I can just imagine what our little Gwynn would think of all those pumpkins. :)) Her mom grew three for her in their garden this year and they are very special to her. Although all your photos are pretty my favorite one is with Whitey Bear and Kai welcoming you home. So sweet. I'm glad I found your blog, Karen. It's refreshing, warm and homey. Deb

  15. Karen, you have such lovely country roads near your home. That sweet llama looking on made me smile. My favorite part of this post was seeing the field of pumpkins! Every year we go to the pumpkin patch, and it's so much fun that the kids act like kids themselves.......including me. : ) Whitey Bear and Kai are such pretty dogs. I bet they keep you company on most days.

A lovely ride in the country, Karen, thanks for taking me along.

  16. So beautiful Karen. That mountain just can't be beat. I love the pumpkin patch! That empty paddock with the houses by it looks exactly like where my Brother lived! He's renting his house out currently, as he's stationed in N.C. right now.
Love your welcoming committee. Such sweethearts. xoxo

  31. We do live in a most beautiful state and your pictures are wonderful ! It is easy to take the views for granted, isn't it ? To see Mt. Rainier from pretty near everywhere around here is a blessing and a reminder to me of my awesome God who created this beauty.
