Hearts and Paper Roses

I've always wanted to try making paper roses,
and here are the results!

I thought these would be perfect for Valentine's Day.

I love how they turned out and they brighten my table
so beautifully on these dreary winter days.

Can you believe these were made with coffee filters?

I hand painted them with watercolor paint in

These were very easy to make, although they did take
about an hour each. I made two a day...., plus had to
let them dry overnight after painting.

I originally planned to make a dozen,
but 6 were enough for my vintage urn.

With one extra for my silver bud vase.

You can see how real these paper roses look
next to the live miniature roses
(a gift from my daughter, Jennie).

The watercolor paint adds lovely sheer color.

What would Valentine's Day be without hearts
along with roses?

These are lavender sachets that I made
with hand crocheted flowers.

I love adding hand-made decorative touches
to my home for the holidays.

These have been carried over from my Christmas decorating,
and are sweet to keep year round.

Hearts are a favorite theme,
and my spice and utensil
racks have their own
little offerings.

Heart shaped cookie cutters and tea strainer
wait for tea and cookies to be served.

I always make my Ramblin' Man
sugar cookies to celebrate
special occasions.

They are his favorite <3

My dear, sweet Sister-in-Law, Donna,
sends me herbs grown in her New Hampshire
 garden every year.

This little bottle wears a tiny, rusty heart.

I found these heart shaped measuring spoons
at my local grocery store recently.
A nice way to add a little love
to those cookies I need to bake

Vintage heart shaped cookie cutters
wait to be put into service under the dome.

My kitchen motto.....

If you would like to make your own paper roses,

  33. Boy, do those roses bring back memories for me. When I was young (say, a hundred years ago give or take a couple decades), people in the south had what was called decoration day and they decorated the graves of their loved ones in the cemetery, People did not have access to store bought flowers so you either cut fresh flowers from your yard or you made flowers out of crepe paper. I've made a bunch of them myself. Gee, I wonder if crepe paper still exists?

    1. That's a lovely tradition! Crepe paper does still exist! Some craft stores still sell it and you can get it on-line. Thanks for sharing and for your sweet visit! xo Karen

  34. I stopped by yesterday, but didn't have time to leave a note. I'm back so I can enjoy those lovely paper roses. Wow... they look so real and lovely in your home.

Enjoyed catching glimpses of the hearts nestled in sweet places as you anticipate Valentine's Day celebrations. Wishing you a lovely one indeed!

  35. Oh Karen,
The paper roses turned out soooo pretty! I would love to make them, and thanks for sending the link. I just need some coffee filters to get started. All your little ❤️ Touches are so sweet around your home.
Thank you for your kind and caring comments to me. I appreciate them so much. I was gone to Mexico last week and am trying to catch up with all my blogging friends.
    Happy Valentine's Day!

  36. Wow your paper roses are fabulous. Thanks for sharing the link on how you made them.

  37. Hello dear Karen

It's such a joy to visit your home!
The roses are divine and no one would know they were made from coffee filters. I always have plunger coffee and DH has percolator so I don't use filters - but I definitely want to try making these roses! I'll buy a packet and have a go!

Your kitchen is so warm and welcoming - love your white kitchen hutch and everything on it - gorgeous white china pieces.
We now live in a relatively new townhouse and sadly there's no room for such lovely pieces of furniture in my kitchen.
However I was determined to squeeze in my glass fronted cabinet - it's english oak and came out from England more than 100 years ago! It’s in our sitting/dining room.

  38. Those roses are perfect. You did such a wonderful job and all of your hearts are so sweet. Your home looks beautiful all dressed up for Valentines Day.

  39. Dear Karen,

Behind every post of yours there is a love wave and the wind of your family.

    Warm greetings from Volos.

  42. Congratulations on those lovely roses, Karen - you have really found the prettiest color, they do look so real! I love the idea of making them all "from scratch" - using coffee filters, and painting the color - wow! Now you have roses that won't wither, but will cheer you up until you can pick your own roses from the garden :)
You really are a "homemaker" - it looks so cozy in your kitchen - the pretty porcelain spoons are very sweet.
    Happy valentine's Day to you!

  43. So beautiful! They look so real and they'll last forever. I need to try my hand at this. Thanks for the tutorial. Hope you have a great week!
