Sunshine in December

It was a beautiful, sunny morning and quite unexpected.

We have had misty, rainy days of perpetual darkness.

So when the sun came streaming in, as if to say, 'Ta-Da!', I knew I had to take advantage of it.

I had to hang my garland on the deck rails.

There would be no other chance for a pleasant day.

We are expecting more days of rain and possibly snow in the 'higher hills'.

And with that, cooler temperatures.

But first, I had to take care of a few necessary chores.

And if you could see the dust that was highlighted in that sunshine, you would be scurrying around with the duster and the vacuum, too!

Can you see little Miss Ling Ling? She is stalking the Hummingbird. We have a female 'Anna's Hummingbird" that is wintering here.

She is iridescently green

like a tiny fairy, flitting around in the sunlight.

Chubby, pampered Ling Ling doesn't stand a chance of catching her.

No need to worry!

I just bought 'Anna' a new feeder that I put in my potted plant on the railing.

The plant has red berries that attract her to stop and investigate.

I hope it encourages her to take a sip.

Oops! I am not supposed to show you my garland yet.

I am getting ahead of myself.

So, back to the sun streaming in while I am cleaning and dusting.

But the bright sunshine has my pet Cockatiel calling.

So, up the stairs I go.

This is the  happy little singer.

His name is Birdy Boy and every morning he sings to the wild birds outside his window.

So while I do a little housecleaning for him, he sits in the window and serenades the lady birds.

The sunbeams are low this time of year, streaming in and leaving patterns on the walls as I hurry with my tasks.

Gazing out the window, I am anxious to go outside and enjoy this beautiful day.

It takes all afternoon, but I finish hanging the garland before sundown.

I'm starting to get in the Christmas Spirit.

And I have my Abominable Snow Dog to prove it!

xx

  3. Lucky you to have a hummingbird stay all winter. We won't see any until May, at least.
I love the low sun at this time of year. It just makes our homes look cozier, doesn't it? Even if we have to dust more often:)

  4. Hi Karen,

I'm glad you were able to enjoy a nice sunny day. It sure will bring out those dust bunnies! I didn't realize you had a Cockatiel. Birdy Boy is very handsome as well as your pretty white dog. Your deck looks very festive with the garland. I hope you are enjoying the holiday season.

I loved your sewing room in the previous post and from what I see here you're home is lovely!
Thanks for the idea of putting the hummingbird feeder in a pot. I have a small one very similar and next summer I'm going to try this.

  8. It has been overcast and chilly here lately, but I really don't mind. When Christmas is nigh (and the decorations are up!), all is right with the world. <3

  9. Dearest Karen,
What a lovely backdrop of green trees with your blue Christmas garland. That looks stunning, like a Christmas fairy tale... Your home seems to be entirely out of wood, including the deck. What a job, considering the many planks. But you certainly do have a lovely place. Glad your introduced Birdy Boy to us as well. It is amazing that the Anna's hummingbirds stay for winter. Does that feeder not freeze solid?
Thanks again for a lovely insight!
    Hugs,
    Mariette

I love your bird that sings to you while you work, maybe that is what I need that would be wonderful motivation.
The beautiful white snowman dog is very cute indeed.
I am happy you have found your Christmas spirit I am still searching as of yet. Hug B

  12. That DOES look like a lovely bright day. I think we are in for a dreary one today which isn't conducive to pretty pictures but I do love a good rainy one!
