Hello, friends, I have been hibernating
these last few days!
Actually, I have been very busy
'putting away' the holidays,
and getting back into
the routine of daily life.
And, of course, watching Downton Abbey!
So sad that this is the last season!
And, of course, watching Downton Abbey!
So sad that this is the last season!
We had very cold temperatures between
Christmas and New Years, although, it
was beautifully clear and sunny.
But during the transition from clear skies
to rain, we had a lovely day of snowfall.
Come along with me and we will take
a little stroll in the snow.....
Big, fat snowflakes falling!
No bench sitting today :)
Uh-oh, watch out for snowballs -
Ramblin' Man has that mischievous
glint in his eye.
Duck!
Can you see Whitey Bear and Kai?
Kai lies down to eat the snow.
American Eskimo dogs
love to play in the snow!
No dogs allowed past this point.
Ramblin' Man checks the latch.
The neighbor's pasture always lures wildlife,
but nothing today.
Everything looks prettier with a dusting of snow.
Maple trees frequently grow in clusters
when the seed pods fall that way.
The giant holly tree by the shed
is still full of berries.
Can you see Kai?
This is where Ramblin' Man told me
to turn around the first time he
brought me to view the property
all those years ago (1980).
I had hiked up the little mountain on an old logging road,
then through brush, over and under fallen trees
and was all scratched up.
I was expecting my 3rd child in two months.
I was not a happy camper :)
In fact, I was mad as a hornet! :)
Ramblin' Man just kept smiling,
and encouraging me along.
Then I turned around to see this....
I was sold.
This view sustained us through incredible hardships
as we built our dream.
You can read about our journey Here.
This Holly tree symbolizes our perseverance.
So pretty up close.
These berries sustain winter birds
through the season.
A Varied Thrush - so beautiful against the snow.
Apartments.
Winter woods.
Hydrangea and Holly.
Snow dusted mountains.

Some of My Favorite Things.
I am humming this song from the Sound of Music....
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens.
Brown paper packages tied up with string.
These are a few of my favorite things.
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels.
Doorbells and sleigh-bells and schnitzel with noodles.
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings.
These are a few of my favorite things.
Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes.
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes.
Silver white winters that melt into springs.
These are a few of my favorite things.
When the dog bites, when the bee stings,
When I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.
xoxo
I hope you are enjoying some of your favorite things,
as winter closes in around us.
Thank you so much for your lovely New Year's wishes!
Keep cozy, my friends!
xoxo

ReplyDeleteHow picturesque! And that's quite a view. You are in a winter wonderland this week. Love that pretty thrush, I don't think I've ever seen one of those. Stay warm! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteIt's all so lovely looking. It does look like a winter wonderland. I'm not a (snow) person so I prefer to view it in pictures like yours. I remember our Rebel and how he enjoyed the snow like your dogs. I miss him.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful pictures!! Thank you for taking us on your walk today :-) I love Downton Abby too, will be sad to see it end.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Jill
Very pretty snow pictures. We are supposed to get snow this weekend, but it was almost 50 today! You also had a good picture of that bird. I've never seen one like it. Very pretty!
ReplyDeleteWhat a peaceful walk and the beauty of your surroundings just majestic. I can see why your mood drastically changed when you turned around and saw that view....WOW.....I can't image seeing that every day....Happy New Year

Dearest Karen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view such fresh snow! Kai and Whitey Bear seem to be in their elements.
Indeed, what a stunning view you both 'earned' the hard way! You built a NEST and a warm home and look, now already the third generation coming into it.
Wishing you winter blessings and stay healthy.
I'm still nursing my lingering bronchitis cough. Don't like to add more antibiotic as I want to save my kidneys. It will go down no doubt. This is the first time in 6 years that I get sick and knowing with my rare auto immune disease it takes time.
Hugs,
Mariette
Oh what glorious photos of your wintry wonderland. You are so right, everything does look prettier with a dusting of snow. Your little corner of the world is heaven on earth!
ReplyDeleteWinter wonderland...just lovely pictures you show us all!

ReplyDeleteI cannot stop saying that you live in the paradise, Karen. I cannot imagine a better place to watch Downton Abbey, unfortunately, Spanish TV stopped emitting this serie 3 years ago.

Your photos are amazing, Karen. You really captured the beauty of winter. It was fun to see Kai with his lovely white coat against the snow. And the photo you took of the little bird is my favorite. We are having a little break today from the first of the el Nino storms. We received a lot of much needed rain. Have a wonderful weekend. It's always a joy to read your blog, Pat xx
ReplyDeleteSimply amazing views and beautiful photos!! My GSD always loved burying his nose in the snow. Love the apartments. So cute. A magical post!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen, Love this post filled with beauty and wonderful memories. All your photos are gorgeous. Taking a walk in the snow with you was perfect. Love seeing your sweet fur babies enjoying the snow. The view of the mountain tops are spectacular. A little piece of heaven you live in.

Happy New Year sweet friend and have a great weekend. xo

ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful winter wonderland photo's, so pretty when you get enough to enjoy without too much to shovel or hard to walk through. I can only imagine how easy it was to except that place with that view it is a beauty that's for sure, even in the foggy and hazy days! Love those pictures of the sun hitting the mountains but the foreground is darker, Lovely job of capturing them!! Have a most wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh Karen ~ Those photos are wonderful, no snow in s.e. FL. :-) Love the view that stole your hearts. What a beautiful place to live and love in, to raise your dear family and sweet pups.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing more of your lovely, peaceful life.
Love & hugs ~ FlowerLady
Karen if I saw that view when I turned round I would have been happy to live in a tent! Perfection!! How lovely to see the snow (even though you probably don't really want it). It's been so mild and rain storm after rain storm. I do hope we get some of the white stuff eventually (blow some over!). Take care my friend xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun post Karen!! And you truly have the best view ever!! That holly is a beautiful symbol - and what a stunning photo. Love your views of the nature right out your back door. ;)
ReplyDeleteBlessings and have a wonderful weekend!! xoxo
Breathtakingly gorgeous. The snow is so pure, and the scenery so inspiring. What a lovely place to call home.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy the walks and drives you take us on and your home is perfection!!

Hello, your snowy views are just gorgeous. I love the shot with your dogs in the snow too. Great photos and fence shots. Have a great evening and weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteI am not surprised that you have been hibernating, it looks very very cold indeed!!! Brrrr!!!! The dogs almost disappear don't they against the background of the snow. Stay in, stay safe and stay warm! xx
ReplyDeleteHi Dear Karen, I'm so glad I stopped in to visit with you tonight, and oooh the beauty of your area is gorgeous with that fresh snow. I can see why your"blue eyes" wanted to make your home on that property, awesome!
ReplyDeleteI took the time to go and read about the building of your home and so happy I did. What joy for you all, and the love between you and your hubby is precious.
It is always a joy coming to your little corner, Karen.
Blessings~~ Debbie
What a gorgeous place you live in! Do you ever lose your white dogs in the snow?!
