A Sentimental Beauty

This beautiful 'Sir Thomas Lipton' Hybrid Rugosa Rose
was planted in 2011 to honor the memory of my Dear Mother.

It didn't bloom that year,
but on the day that my Dear Father died
a year later, it bloomed for the very first time.

They were married 58 years.

Since then, this Sentimental Beauty has bloomed faithfully
on this very special anniversary.

My Father's last gift to me.

This beautiful rose brings me such comfort and joy!

As I write this, I see it right outside my living room window.

This year, my sweet Mr. installed a rose arbor
  to capture its beauty.

This rose has an intoxicating scent.

The flowers are large, but delicate and don't last long in arrangements.

So I am happy to just enjoy it gracing the arbor.

If you would like to grow your own Rugosa Rose,

you can find growing information Here

This commemorative garden is a work in progress.....

I hope to add to it as the years go on, adding favorite flowers

that they loved to grow.

Today I am linking with Under Lock and Key: Floral Friday

Thank you, Trishie for hosting this fun meme!

  17. I love your idea of a memory garden and that rose is a sweet one! I have several flowers that are from family and friends, but not in one special place in the garden. Now you've given me an idea. I'm not sure my hubby will like that:)

  29. I've always loved Rugosa roses, I Iove their form, foliage and their fragrance.
Sir Thomas Lipton is exquisite and a very fitting rose to plant in memory of your dear mother.
What a story, that's amazing that it waited to flower on the day your dear papa passed on - a signal from your Mama perhaps at the thought of being re-united with her beloved husband!

The rose arbour is very special Karen, I hope you you show us more photos of it from time to time.

    have a happy week.
    Hugs

What a pretty rose. I love white roses, as they symbolize peace and grace to me. It will always remind you of your beloved mom. I lost my mom about five years ago too. They look pretty next to the rose arbor that your husband built. And I love its name, Sentimental Beauty.

    Have a wonderful week, Karen.
