Is there anything more uplifting than a beautiful summer day?
The sun dappled forest greets me as I sip my morning coffee.
Fresh blueberries
plump and sweet to add to the muffin batter.
Sweet summer frocks,
freshly ironed and laid out to begin the day.
A trip to the market along wildflower strewn country roads.
A quick stop at the post office with
a lovely garden for patrons to admire.
Can you see my little Ford Ranger?
On the way I see the farmers cutting their hay fields.
Hot, dusty work for them, but wonderful sights and scents for me!
Tall stands of purple fireweed sway in the summer breeze.
Plant sales and yard sales promise bargains galore.
How can I resist?
A windmill hints at faraway lands and a proud ancestry.
I take the back roads home, weaving through lush farmland.
Each farmer's barn, wonderfully unique.
Lovely tall grass frames the view.....
of two lovely barns in a pretty barnyard.
This beautiful barnyard has a miniature replica of the main house for little ones to play.
Arriving home, the Mr. and I make quick work of some leftover homemade soup and Irish brown bread.
And lemon pudding parfaits. With more fresh blueberries, of course!
This little hummingbird greets us as we retire to the deck to enjoy our evening.
Maggie relaxes alongside.
And as the day slowly turns to dusk, we count our blessings.
That we have each other to share these wonderful summer days.
Thank you for sharing them with me, too!
These summer days go quickly by.
I hope you are enjoying the simple pleasures of your summer days.

ReplyDeleteSummer days like these are the ones that I cherish! I can feel and smell the beauty of your day through your post! Fresh blueberries! Yum! And my beans would love that play house! How cool is that! The barns are beautiful!!! Have a lovely week friend!!!
ReplyDeleteDearest Karen,
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, wavy ride to town and back! Such pure farmland in the middle of beautiful nature is a joy to pass through. Glad that you did take us along with your loyal compact pick-up; your Ford Ranger.
Love your summer frock, must feel like a breeze to wear.
And all the red barns throughout the landscape and the replica house in front of the barn. So many lovely details and even a windmill, hinting that some Dutch ancestors settled there.
Yes, summer is going fast and we better enjoy all its beauty while it lasts.
Hugs to you,
Mariette
Karen I love how you have really captured the "essence" of summer. Days to cherish in their specialness! Great shots, all so lovely. Especially love the last one... so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful day it's freezing here.
ReplyDeleteMerle............
Lovely summer indeed. We've had cool mornings amd lovely evenings that cool us down. I love your photos of Mt. Rainier in your skyline. I wouldn't grow tired of that. I see Mt. Hood often on my way to work. Enjoy!

I so enjoyed the sights of your summers day ride through the heavenly countryside in your neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteI delight in the way you write Karen ~:)
Happy days to you.
When I come to your sweet blog I instantly feel myself relax - you have such a way with words and photography. I enjoyed the journey you shared :) The hummingbird is so sweet as are the lovely flowers.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Monday, dear friend. Hugs!
Such a wonderful post, as always. Thank you for sharing it with us. Your summer clothes are so pretty! And I was interested to see that you call "fireweed" what here we call "Rosebay willowherb". Roobeedoo knitted me some "Willowherb" socks and I modelled them in front of the real willowherb, which is coming into flower here in Scotland too.
ReplyDeleteAnd you're so right, the most important thing is to have one another. xox
This looks like such a beautiful summer day! This was a lovely photo journey!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely day - the barns, the farm workers - the tent sale (what did you buy?), that miniature house is too darling, I can just imagine a tea party in there. The moon above the mountain is glorious - what wonderful summer memories. We have been enjoying the summer evenings too - sitting on the deck, listening to the birds settling in, watching the bats swoop and dive - waiting for the moon to clear the tree tops. Oh - and eating Ranier Cherries - what could be better?
ReplyDeleteFrom blueberries for breakfast to a ride in the country; you really captured summer and all that means.....
ReplyDeleteOh my - indeed lovely summer day you've enjoyed -- Your photo are great my favorite today is Maggie (look at those eyes).. I always enjoy your barn photos too.. cause you know how crazy I am about red barns -- Yes, I am smiling!

ReplyDeleteIt's funny, but as I look at the sights that you see along the way in Washington, I can't help but notice the similarities down here in Louisiana. Beauty lurks everywhere, doesn't it? <3
