A Trip to the Christmas Tree Farm

Hello, Dear Friends, I hope that you are finding
time to make sweet memories
as we celebrate this special time of year.

One of my favorite memories, so far this season,
was our recent trip to the Christmas tree farm.

It was a cold, misty morning when we started our journey,
along the foothills of the Cascades, to meet my two son's,
their wives and my little grandson.

Mist settles into the landscape of sleeping farms and
leafless trees as we travel the back-roads of Washington State.

There is beauty in every season.

We traveled for over an hour without passing through
another town, finally arriving in the historic
logging town of our destination.

The sign points the way.....

We were on a mission........

To find a tree for my son and his wife.
My son has snapped his Achilles tendon - oh, I know,
so painful and so worrisome ..... but he is on the mend,
a long and slow process, and is now able to hobble
around on crutches (Jen is his crutch here :).

Here are the rest of us, all bundled up on a cold, winter day.

Hmmmm.....did anyone bring a saw?

The tree has been selected, cut and brought down for
wrapping. That's my Ramblin' Man in the lead.
He can still keep up with the young guys, although
with a few extra aches and pains the next day.
xoxo

Meanwhile, the 'girls' and I found our way into the gift shop.
I found a few little things to take home :)

Afterwards, we all met up in the cafe'
for a cup of hot cocoa.
Uncle Dustin warms up the little guy.

The ceiling was strung with twinkle lights and chandeliers.
Santa came and sat in a big chair by a decorated Christmas tree,
but my grandson was too shy to say hello :)

So we took a little train ride.
My grandson was so excited, but very serious
about this momentous occasion.
xoxo
He loves 'Thomas the train',
a favorite book series and children's television show.

It was the best part of the day.
xoxo

We all meet at Dustin and Jen's for pizza and to
help set up the tree. We nicknamed it 'Dumpling'.

It was a wonderful day.

Thank you for coming along, Dear Friends!

xoxo

P.S. I've postponed my narrative of our trip to Italy
until after the New Year, so I will share that soon.
It's hard to believe that the new year is 'soon', isn't it?

I've been so busy decorating and hanging out with
some fat little elves (my grand-babies), so will
share the results next time.

'Tis the Season!
xoxo

  2. The misty photos are quite beautiful. I love the tree farm, though we haven't done it in years, the last time being with a Japanese family having their first American Christmas. Such fun to rediscover this tradition in the company of first-timers.It looks like a wonderful and memorable day for you and your family.

  5. Today I decorated the Christmas tree. I really enjoyed it! This is something I look forward to every year. Every year I get very excited, I decorate the Christmas tree and it begins to feel like Christmas. I think this year's Christmas tree is also very beautiful.

  11. Karen, thank you for this post. You brought back so many memories for me of when the kids were little. We always went to the farms and cut our own trees. It was such a fun time. It is almost a shame that faux trees became so popular as there is nothing like the smell of a fresh Christmas tree in the house. Looks like you all had such a good time and thank you, too, for your visit to me and your kind and sweet words...Merry Christmas my friend..xxoJudy

  12. Karen, love the name of the tree. Too cute! That tree looks really heavy to carry. What a wonderful misty adventure! What fun with your grandson and you must be in heaven playing with your fat little elves! Thank you so much for praying for my family and especially Lilah Rose. I worry so that she will be heartbroken when she goes to her new home. I'm trying to trust God in this.

  16. Our fall and early winter weather is almost the equal of the damp and fog of Washington state. No decorating here, as it isn't feasible in the confines of our camper. Maybe next year in the new house.
These years when grandchildren are small are precious, seeing holiday wonders through their eyes.

  17. There's not many things more special than going to the tree farm and finding that perfect tree for our homes. And what makes it even more special is going there with family. What a wonderful day you had at the tree farm, Karen. The gift shop sounds delightful, and I'm glad you bought some goodies for yourself. What a wonderful way to end the perfect day by going to the café for a cup of hot cocoa. This is a treasured picture of you and your grandson on the train ride. The Merriest Christmas to you, my dear friend.

We've also recently bought a Christmas Tree. We've decorated it together with our daughter and cats :) It was such a fun.
