Hello, Dear Friends, I hope you are having a
wonderful Friday. Here, it is raining once more.
For Five on Friday, I would like to show you
what I like to do on a rainy day.
****
One thing I love to do when it rains is
go to the market. The drive to and from is
not really that pleasant, but once you get inside
the brightly lit store and hit the produce aisle,
you can pretend it is sunny outside!
It's always nice to bring home some delicious,
summer offerings.
A fresh salad always lifts the spirits on a dreary day!
And so do fresh flowers!
The second thing I like to do on a rainy day
is catch up on the laundry.
I still can't figure out how two people
can generate sooooo much laundry!
I remember the good old days of doing
laundry with 4 little ones, though,
so I am not complaining!
My little sign says it all........
I found the brown bleach bottle at an old
home site nearby. There was once a little
coal-mining town here at the turn of the century,
complete with hotel and saloon!
All gone now...
My bank for spare change found in pockets:)
I really, really, really want a little travel trailer.
So far I have $5 ! Lol!
My vintage print above the dryer.
My middle daughter, Jennie, loved
dolls and would spend countless hours
washing their clothes and playing 'house'.
This print brings back memories of those sweet childhood days.
Another sweet reminder......
A third favorite activity on a rainy day is baking.
I found these charming little measuring cups
at the most unlikely little shop at Christmas.
It was one of those novelty gift stores
that had no other baking or cooking supplies.
It was meant to be.....
Today I am whipping up a batch of Ramblin' Man's
favorite cookies......
Oatmeal Raisin.
The kitchen always smells so good after
a baking frenzy....
I've nick-named these 'Cow-pies' because,
well, it's pretty obvious :)
Now for the clean-up.
Hand washing in hot sudsy water is a satisfying
way to end a baking session.
All clean!
The fourth way I like to spend a rainy day is
working on my needlework.
Here I am making some 'Granny squares'
in my favorite color.
I'm almost done with my project.
I will show you soon...
I always have company when I sit down to relax....
Here, Maggie and Ling-Ling rest nearby.
My sweet Maggie is getting very old and frail.
She is almost 18 now. She does a lot of sleeping these days.
Every day is precious.
Of course, the pups are my constant companions, too.
Kai and Whitey Bear, my American Eskimos.
You can see Ramblin' Man at his usual place.
We have had Kai exactly one year now.
His young owner had to give him up
and wanted a country home for him
to be free to run. He loves to run!
He is two years old.
He has added such joy and energy to our lives.
Whitey Bear is slowing down......
I don't know his exact age, as he was a stray.
I think he is about 10 years now. He is getting arthritic.
He has had a few losses in his short life -
my two previous dogs, Little Bear and Champ.
If anyone thinks dogs don't grieve, I can tell you that they do :(
He was never the same after we lost Champ,
but he and Kai have become best friends.
On a rainy day, we stay cozy inside.
But sometimes it is nice to get outside in the rain!
Getting outside to listen to the rain on the canopy roof
is refreshing when you've been cooped up inside!
Taking a hot cup of tea and a cookie or two
is a sweet little reprieve.
Maggie and Ling-Ling enjoy hanging out here, too.
You can see Ling-Ling under the chair.
Sometimes I get lucky and see a rainbow.
I'm hoping this is the last of the rain for a while!
The forecast is for sunshine, starting tomorrow.
They said that last week.....
In the meantime, I just try to keep busy.
What do you like to do on a rainy day, Dear Friends?
xoxo
Today I am linking with:
Five on Friday
Won't you join the fun?
Your view is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you know how to stay busy on a rainy day. You take wonderful photos. I know what you mean about such a lot of laundry for just 2 people, it's amazing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post. Lots of wonderful things to do on a rainy day. Makes it seem not so bad. I love baking. I miss it in the summer - some days it is just too hot to turn that oven on. The view is really amazing.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend
Speaking of, we're are having a thunderstorm right now. I love to watch the rain hit the lake and if it wasn't lightening, I would be on the porch watching. I like to nap, too. Ha! It really makes me sleepy. Ramblin' man and I share the same favorite cookie. Can't wait to see your crochet project....I love that shade of blue.
ReplyDeleteJo dear Karen !! Ohhhh como llueve y después sale un lindo sol .. Que bello arco iris
ReplyDeleteEverything you listed is perfect for me too! In the summer, it's good to have a rainy day occasionally, not only for the crops, but to get some household chores done:)
ReplyDeleteDear KAren,
ReplyDeletethank oyu for lovely pictures ( well, not the rainy ones ...LOL...)
we had a lot of rain too and I hope, we will get "normal" summerdays soon!
Your cookies look so delicious! And I am looking forward to see more of your crotching!
Happy weekend to you, my dear friend,
sending lvoe and hugs and blessings,
Claudia xo
Another beautiful post, you certainly have a spectacular view. I usually wile away a few hours in the craft room when rain hits, a regular occurrence of late. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteHi Karen,
ReplyDeleteSo loved seeing all the wonderful things you do on a rainy day - baking and the fabulous smell coming from the oven is a great thing.
We have rain here too and we have just come back from the supermarket.
Happy weekend
hugs
Carolyn
Hello, dear friend! Those cookies look amazing. It rains a great deal here in Germany, but I have always loved the rain.
ReplyDeleteI wish you a terrific weekend!
Hello, I love your sweet dogs and kitty. Your cookies do look delicious. Baking on a rainy day sounds like a good way to pass the time. I hope the sun is out for you. Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteWe're supposed to get a few thunderstorms overnight, I like to sleep (if I don't have anywhere to be) on a rainy morning. Love the glimpse into how you spent your rainy day. Beautiful rainbow.
ReplyDeleteSeems like a perfect rainy day! Your lovely Maggie looks just like my Susie! All of your pets are lovely!
ReplyDeleteA rainy day? What is that?! I live in Phoenix and would love to have a rainy day. Your post is refreshing to look at. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt has been raining a lot here too. Your things to do on a rainy day are all wonderful and so homely too. I totally agree with you about dogs grieving. I am sure they feel the loneliness after the companionship of another dog that they are with all the time just as much as we do. I am sorry to be so late visiting, we had a minor domestic drama yesterday - nothing serious in the end, all ok - but I didn't get a change to do any blogging. Thank you so much for taking part in Five On Friday, I do appreciate it! Hope you are having a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteYou can never believe what those weather forecasters say, can you. Your rainy days sound and look wonderful. I love that pretty "bank".....perhaps one day you will be travelling along your pretty part of the world in a cute travel trailer.
ReplyDeleteI like to stay home and do all the things you do, with my kitties by my side. I like to be home on a rainy day the most when it is dark and thundering!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a pretty good way to spend a rainy day.
ReplyDeleteMerle........
I will gladly take any extra rain off your hands. Here in Missouri we're sweltering with temps in the 90's and humidity to match, sending the real feel soaring.
ReplyDeleteYour post has inspired me, however, to make the most of it and accomplish some things inside. After all, we do have a/c. My poor ancestors. You, My Dear, have sent me in a new direction. I'll not complain about the weather anymore, but instead just work with it. Thank you.
Tropcal heat here in Sweden...wish for some rain soon...
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week now!
Titti
What a beautiful rainy day post, although here's my sad but true fact when I do the laundry and the sun's out I feel happy!! Keep going with your savings nearly there for the trailer!!!! I agree sitting outside in the rain enjoying the fresh air is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy week.

Your rainy day activities almost match mine, but I'd add reading a good novel in there, too, while drinking a cup of tea. I can almost smell the rain in the mountains in your photo of your deck. So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is so lovely to come away from some rainy days here near Mt. Hood, in Boring, OR, and enjoy the warm sunshine...the AC just came on! I like your rainy day activities too, and enjoy stitching, and experimenting with watercolors inside when it is dreary outside. Thanks for your lovely post!
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos! I really love rainy days...they energize me!
ReplyDeleteDearest Karen,
ReplyDeleteWell, sorting out my life, one load at a time I surely have been doing this week! Oh my, what a laundry. The most work is always doing the colored things, separating them by color. Towels, bedlinen and underwear (whites) are the easy ones to do. But I feel mighty proud for having tackled a LOT. Also the painters did finish the inside of the garage and everything is hung and put back in place. We decluttered some and things look better.
We had no rain except a shower yesterday but not really much.
Sending you hugs with sunshine and how sweet your canines look so close to each other! Yes, dogs or cats do certainly grieve and for a very long time too.
Happy new week.
Mariette
Sounds like the perfect things to me on a rainy day, although I think I would have to put some card making in there, I have a window in front of my desk so I like to look out and watch the storm go by :) Wow it is hard to believe it has been a year already since you got Kai.... and I do agree that animals grieve, I watched it when we lost Anna and then Jip, our little Peanut has not been the same since they have gone. Love the rainbow, there is nothing better to see after the rain ... have a terrific week, hopefully full of sunshine!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Post---- beautiful rainbow!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Post---- beautiful rainbow!!
ReplyDeleteLove your 5 Karen! Sorry I'm still playing catch up.
ReplyDeleteI'd say most of mine is similar to yours - except I would need to swap the knitting for paper crafting or scrapbooking. ;)
Those cookies may not look the "prettiest" (love the nickname- ha!) but I bet they taste delish!!
And I love the update on all of your sweet furry babies. They truly can be the best company, can't they?
Blessings on your week Hon! xoxo
I love you post and I am seeking for your country and the name of the mountain with snow on the top. It's so beautiful. Thanks for sharing such a beauty!!!
