Five on Friday - Flowers and Rainbows

Now that Easter is over,
I've changed my tablescape
and added a simple bunch
of baby's breath to my new galvanized bucket.
(A souvenir from the Northwest Garden Show)

These will be coming with me
to the baby shower for my
daughter-in-law on Saturday!

The perfect flower for a baby shower,
don't you think?!

I've been busy all week crafting
for the big event.

It was a lovely afternoon today,
so I took my supplies outside
and worked.

We have been having very unsettled
weather - a little sunshine
and a little rain.

It changes by the hour!

My English daisies get so
heavy with rain that their heads
break off, so I gathered the
broken ones into a little bowl.

They remind me of my Grandmother's
powder puffs!

I can't tell you what the decorated cups
are for - it is a surprise for the baby shower. .

You will have to come back to visit
next week to see the results....

I bought this miniature African violet two
years ago and it has consistently bloomed
ever since.

Don't you just love the little basket?
A thrifty find.
It is lined with sewing pattern paper,
and has a pearl trimmed wire brim.

It usually lives upstairs in my sewing room,
but I brought it down to enjoy the flowers.

I do think it is bewitched by the fairies!

My cactus is blooming, too.
The hammered brass urn is another thrifty find.

I just love the bright pink cascading blossoms.

They cheer up this sometimes dreary weather!

The rain started up again and I had to move inside,
but look! - a Rainbow!

Something to smile about even in the rain.

It seems that whenever I have had a particularly trying
time in my life, a rainbow has appeared....
When my daughter was in a car accident (she recovered)
and I left the hospital, the day my Mother died,
when my Father was in a nursing
home with Alzheimer's and it was the first time
that he didn't know me anymore - I walked
away with tears in my eyes
and there was a rainbow.

When I see a rainbow,
I know that someone, somewhere
is comforted by those beautiful
arcs of shimmering color.

xoxo

I hope you have a lovely weekend
Dear Friends!

Always keep looking for the rainbow!
xoxo

  13. What a beautiful post! It has made me happy just reading about rainbows.
How do you keep your violets blooming? I am terrible with houseplants. But I love African violets and would like to get several if I could keep them going!

  15. Dearest Karen,
What a lovely bouquet of Baby's Breath for the occasion. You will no doubt manage to give your very best of talents to make this a very unique and happy gathering!
Did you know that you can create babies from that miniature African violet? Just pinch off a leave and with a hair pin, stick it into moist potting soil. When placing a plastic bottle (cut off) over it you mimic a little green house. If I had such a darling double blooming violet, I would multiply them for little gifts...
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  19. This is a sweet post, filled with lovely flowers, crafty ideas, great finds, and a nice rainbow.

In the week or so right after my dear husband left this planet, I was standing at the gas station pumping gas and there was a rainbow hanging over the cemetery across the street, right over the area where his paternal grandparents are buried. I felt awed. Rainbows make me feel happy and thankful.

Have a great weekend ~ FlowerLady

  21. Just love your beautiful and flower-filled home! I think your whole house must be bewitched by fairies. ;)

I can't wait to see what the secret craft project turns out to be! I bet you will have such a fun time at the shower - it's so exciting!! And I agree that the baby's breath is perfect (I wore them in a halo on my head for my first communion instead of a veil).

And I truly believe that the rainbow has been given to you as your own personal sign. During those trying times when you saw the rainbow you were being reminded you're never alone through it all.

    Blessings dear Friend. xoxo

  22. Aww Karen,I so enjoyed hearing about your rainbow and all the precious times God sent it your way. His love for us is amazing!!

Your place is ALWAYS beautiful, and I find relaxation here when I come to visit.
Notice I usually come late in the evenings, its because I find you and your place soothing and comforting to my soul.
    Thank you!

    Have a blessed Lord's Day.

  23. Rainbows always have wondrous messages to tell. One time, a rainbow briefly stopped a disagreement between me and my sweetie.

  24. I have never been to a baby shower, it sounds like something really exiting. I'll be back next week to learn more. Rainbows are special, I agree. We once painted a cheerful rainbow onto our drab garden wall to always have something special in the garden. x

  25. Hope you had a wonderful time at the baby shower. I bet your daughter in law was very surprised. So sweet that you put it together for her. Love all of your flowers in this post. I passed on some English Daisies at Home Depot yesterday. Kicking myself, should have grabbed them.

    Enjoy your week.

  28. Lovely touches all around you in your creativity! Especially touched by the beautiful story of the rainbows in your life. A rainbow that was especially meaningful for me was when we went to Hawaii for the first time and were out walking on the beach seeing a beautiful rainbow out at sea at night.... they are called MOONBOWS, and we were told that it is very special to see them when you are a visitor.

  29. Karen, sometimes I forget what blog friend I tell things to, so I may have mentioned this to you before, but I believe that when we see a rainbow it is a gift, and I smiled when I read that you saw many rainbows at certain times in your life too. They are beautiful, aren't they? Your English daisies are so pretty. The daisies here look a bit different, but they are one of my favorite flowers. Your little fairy is sweet and is enchanting on those gorgeous African violets.

Thank you for the rainbow today. My brother-in-law just passed away and we're all very sad during this time, so seeing the rainbow made me smile.

    love, ~Sheri
