Jennie's Christmas Cottage -- Five on Friday

My daughter, Jennie, invited me over
for dinner the other night.
This is her first Christmas in her tiny,
1910 cottage.
You can see more photos of her cottage Here.
Here she is in the photo on the wall,
peeking out from behind the top
of her pretty Christmas tree!

This tiny vintage Christmas tree is so 'her'.
The silver plate banner reads 'DREAM'.
The wrapped 'Present' on the wall
is a weathered piece of barn board.

She found both the tree and the 'present'
on our recent 'vintage' shopping trip.

A pretty wreath and chandelier ornament
and
A lovely vignette.

Her welcoming table and the delicious meal she prepared.
(Cheese ravioli, salad and buttered flat bread.

I supplied dessert - Lemon Bread.

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1+ 2/3  cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup milk
Grated peel of l lemon

Topping:
1/4 cup sugar
juice of l lemon

  1. Cream butter with sugar and add eggs.
  2. Mix flour with baking powder and salt.
  3. Add flour mixture and milk to butter mixture.
  4. Mix in lemon peel.
  5. Bake in greased 5x9" loaf pan at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
  6. Pierce top with toothpick while hot. Mix and pour on topping.

It was a wonderful evening spent under
the glow of her twinkling Christmas tree;
catching up, sharing laughs, good food,
memories of a year that went by too quickly,
and dreams for the New Year.

The loveliest gift at Christmas
is time spent with family.

xoxo

Next time: I attend the Nutcracker ballet with
daughter, Heather, and share her Christmas Cottage, too.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend, my friends!

xoxo

  8. Dearest Karen,
What a joy to go to daughter Jennie's lovely cottage during the Christmas season.
She is as good a NESTER as her sweet Mama is.
Love to see her imagination from the moment at the store and than the way she adopted the new pieces into her own living space. She knows what she is doing!
    Lovely meal, prepared with love.
    Sending you hugs and blessings.
    Mariette

PS Dad is back in the hospital. Fluids in his lungs and this morning when I called at 2:00 AM our & 8:00 AM his time he did sound so weak. My youngest sis went to see him and called the ambulance. He's back in the safe environment where he will be watched over far better than being alone at home. He is in God's hands...

  12. Your daughter's house is decorated so pretty for Christmas. I'm sure she's enjoying her "new" house! My daughter keeps finding interesting small house ideas that are affordable. We are ok here with rain and wind...not too bad today. My sis made it down from WA to Portland to meet up with her friend. Planning to see her tomorrow evening at my house. I-5 North bound still has one lane closed by Woodland, WA where there was a avalanche/slide. Should be open tomorrow. Sure alot of wacky weather going on this week! Next week a bit better?
