After the Storm

The morning after our first storm of the season, the sun was shining warmly through the kitchen curtains.

My sweet 'Grand-pup', Peanut always loves a good sun bath and seeks out the warming rays.

"Look deep into my eyes", she says.

"You will give me a treat and you will do it now."

She is joined by her 'sister', Weenie Baby. I am pet-sitting these two little darlings while my daughter is moving to a new home.

They are patiently waiting for me to slip on my boots and red plaid flannel (it is hunting season) to go outside for our morning walk.

We are joined by these two, Champ and Whitey, who were let out by The Mr. earlier.
They can't wait to get outside in the morning, racing each other to patrol the property and investigate any new scents left during the night.

My Guardian Angels.

They are fearless.

We had high winds which left a beautiful golden carpet from the cedar trees along the walkway.

The Mr. is already out surveying for damage.

Weenie Baby waits for me to hurry up.

It is a golden world!

My faithful chariot did not escape.

I'm a truck drivin' gal! 4-wheel drive. 4 on the floor. Oh yea!

This is no place for Sissies!

Whitey leads the way - can you believe this is our driveway? It is completely buried.

We only lost one small tree. The Mr. has moved it to the side of the driveway. Can you see it?

Hardly a leaf left!

These are 'Big Leaf Maple' leaves. The leaves are sometimes a foot across!

Champ retrieves his beloved ball.

I set to work sweeping the deck of storm debris.

I make a little sampler of what I find.

Begonia blossoms, winged maple seeds, mossy twigs, alder and cedar cones.

Once everything is tidy, I set up an impromptu potting station.

Daffodils and Crocus to bring next Spring's surprise.

And a basket of ivy for the front door.

A flock of geese fly overhead as I enjoy this beautiful day.

A late season bee enjoys a sip of nectar.

My Anna's Hummingbirds will stay year round. Of course I will feed them!

Beautiful Begonia continue to bloom. We have not had a hard frost yet.

Hardy Fuchsia will sometimes bloom through December.

I soak up this rare day of sunshine, knowing the cold, dark days of Winter lie ahead.

But with hope of Spring's beauty safely tucked away.

Have you planted any spring bulbs this year?

xx

Thank you Dear Friends for your kind, sweet visits.

I appreciate each and every one of you.

xoxo

  6. covered in leaves -- what a place to find kids building a huge pile to jump on...or hide in - send for the kids (even if they are married) to come on over to play = work + clean up - wink! ... Glad all is well -- wind storms can be a bit nerving to sit through or sleep through.. Beautiful day after --indeed!

  7. I am so loving those shots of your golden carpet! Those perspectives in your photos of your walkway and the one looking back at your arbor are amazing! I was so taken with how large that tree is in that shot with the truck!! And you have inspired me to get moving on planting some bulbs in pots this season! I have planted a bunch of bulbs out front but none in pots so I have to get moving! Sounded like a big storm and no I can not believe that that is your driveway!!! Such a beautiful home you have Karen!

  8. Charming post - I like the sampler. You certainly have a lot of trees to clean up after - luckily only one was lost in the storm. I haven't planted any bulbs yet - but think I just might do that - I love when they come up in the spring.

  17. Good morning Karen. Thanks for being so sweet and visiting my blog. I haven't been very good about getting around to my fellow bloggers. I guess that's what happens when you get a grandbaby and you get to go quilting, all together! Ha ha ha.
I love your posts, so pretty and peaceful. You live in such a beautiful part of the NW!
    Much love,

  18. Dearest Karen,
What a lovely post! Those HUGE maple leaves are gorgeous and you could make yourself baskets full of maple leaf roses: http://www.lobzik.pri.ee/modules/news/article.php?storyid=244
Guess nature needs those storms for knocking down those loads of leaves. Your deck sure needs sweeping afterwards but it looks again very peaceful. We don't add any spring bulbs to the thousands we have on our property. They naturalize too. At the moment husband Pieter is bringing our huge pot plants inside the greenhouses.
    Enjoy your cozy indoor time.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  26. I love that quote from Thoreau! And what spectacular views you have. I'm glad you escaped big trouble from the storm. It did leave your grounds very pretty. Your sampler looks like an impressionist painting on that glass table! I'm glad you are enjoying fall.

  28. I am so glad you all escaped more serious damage and only had one tree and a tonne of leaves to clear up. Such a beautiful place and to be surrounded by those beautiful trees is stunning. Your dogs seemed so happy to do the searching for damage and I bet they loved the twigs along the way. We are not planting up yet as it's so soggy here at the moment! Keep safe my lovely. xx
