A Day at the Pumpkin Patch

Hello, Dear Friends, I hope that you are enjoying
these beautiful, golden days of October!

I was recently invited to go to the pumpkin farm
with my daughter, son-in-law, and little grandson,
so come along with me and we will have a little fun!

The entrance to the farm was lined with these fun scarecrows.

A wonderful, vintage Dodge truck was in the parking lot.

I have a soft spot for vintage trucks, passed down from my Dad.

My little Grandson is dressed for the occasion
in his flannel shirt and overalls!
He loves being outside, especially when there are
other little ones, too.

Although, we mostly had the place to ourselves,
as we arrived just as the gates opened on a Friday morning.

I love the authentic atmosphere with
beautiful barns and scenery.

And of course, vintage trucks!
My Dad had one very similar.
It had a crank start - he had to turn
a crank on the front of the truck to 'prime'
the engine before starting.

I have such fond memories of riding beside him
on beautiful New England mornings
as he drove me to my
summer job as a nanny for my aunt,
before starting his own long day as foreman of the tool and die
company he worked for.

We would take the 'back roads' through the farmland,
as the old truck could only reach speeds of 40 mph!

He would tell me stories of his childhood growing
up on his Grandfather's 800 acre 'truck' farm where
the produce was sold at Boston's iconic Faneuil Hall
Marketplace.

His Grandfather drove a wonderful old truck, filled to the brim
with produce, 30 miles to Boston each weekend,
with his faithful companion - a little white dog.

Now I have kept the legacy alive with my own classic Ford Ranger
and two white dogs to keep me company!

Specialty pumpkins, gourds and flowers for sale.

A new generation of vintage truck admirers!

Time to hit the pumpkin patch!

the pumpkin for a ride in a stream of water.

Another view.....

Don't you love the beautiful barn?

Let's get a little closer......

Baby goats!

How precious is this?

Oooooooh! Stinky! :)

Daddy takes the little guy on the slide.

He doesn't look too sure .........

But like his Dad, (a proud Marine) he's a true dare-devil!

He didn't make a peep and took it all in stride.

We make our way back through the pumpkin fields.

It was getting a bit cool and windy.

We stop for some photos......

The little family :)
The twins are due in February.

Three generations

Time to buy our pumpkins and say goodbye.

And as we take the slow road to home,
we count our blessings for this beautiful
day of fun, togetherness, and the start of a new generation
of family legacy and traditions.

xoxo

Thank-you for coming along, dear friends!

Next time I will show you the pumpkins
that we bought!

  5. Sounds like so much fun, we went to a pumpkin patch too early in the season but I think it's time to find one again. I've never seen a pumpkin washer before how cool. It must be wonderful to have mountains in the background like that. So nice you have those memories.

  9. Your adorable little grandson is the cutest punkin ever! We went to the pumpkin patch (it's called Pumpkin City and it's set up in the mall parking lot) yesterday with our grandchildren. It was fun feeding the goats and ducks. I loved reading about your memories from growing up. Isn't it nice that you can make new memories with your dear loved ones? Hugs to you, Pat

  11. The pumpkins fields look gorgeous! I have years ago grown giant pumpkins, the heaviest weighed about 50 kilos. It is a good result in our climate conditions :) You have something wonderful to expect in February - so lovely. I have to tell you that Finlands president, 69 years, and his wife, 40 years, are expecting also their first child in February. Twins or not, do not know.

    Happy weekend.

  18. What a lovely day out with your daughter, son-in-law and little grandson! I enjoyed seeing the field full of pumpkins. It's not a sight we see here in Yorkshire although pumpkins are popular to buy in the shops at this time of the year. The barns and vintage vehicles are what I picture in my mind when I think of some parts of rural USA. It's good that you can carry on family traditions that are special to you and your family. I'm thankful that I've had a part-time job that fitted in with being able to look after our grandchildren when our daughters were working. Now we're retired my husband and I have even more time for the youngest ones. Today our grandson will be with us after school's finished and will have a meal with us before going to his football training session. Wishing you a lovely weekend Karen.

  23. Dearest Karen,
WOW, what a very special post this was; in many ways... you will find out.
Love the story that seems to be seriously passed on to the next generation indeed.
Vintage cars like we remember from films like Lassie!
You must have been Daddy's girl, the way he told you stories about his own childhood.
We are what we are because of stories like that, the very soul of our family ties!
How much your cute little grandson enjoyed this; and with the baby goats together - precious photos.
Oh, February is just around the corner... So anxious for all in your family.
At the end my eyes popped for seeing the name MARIS.
My late 1st husband's name was Frans Van Maris... Even with the Van not mentioned here, who knows?! His family tree originated in Hungary in the 15th Century.
The world can seem small at times but it sure is a surprise to read this here.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

Aren't you a lucky lady getting to ride in an old truck alongside your dad. Love old trucks. Sweet photo of your grandson with the goats and how lovely is the photo of you, your daughter and grandson. 29. What a wonderful day out! I used to love those visits with my kids. We always took a trip to a local farm that had apple picking and a pumpkin patch. It was first starting out and wasn't too expensive and the kids had a lot of fun. There was even a maze. Thanks for sharing!

  34. Oh Karen, what a fun day you had with your family and especially your little grandson. You are passing along some great traditions to him and his future siblings. Twins at that!! As I haven't visited in a long while that is news to me. Wow! Very exciting indeed. I love the antique trucks and all the rows of orange pumpkins in the field. I also enjoyed your story of your father and grandfathers trucks. My great uncle had a small village grocery store and I have fond memories of delivering groceries with him in his big old 1930 something car. Not sure what it was but I remember the back doors opened at the centre with the front doors and there was a blanket rope across the back of the front seat. Those old cars didn't have much for heat so blanket would be needed to keep warm! I hope you are having a beautiful October. Blessings to you. Pam

  35. I am thankful you created this lovely post, Karen. I thoroughly enjoyed your family visit to the wonderful Pumpkin Patch! This past week my oldest sister and other family members had to evacuate their homes in Sonoma and Santa Rosa, CA due to the wildfires. They are safe and some are now home again. Your beautiful posts are encouraging me to appreciate the beauty and peace around you and me and to not be discouraged but rather to continue to pray for safety and peace for the many who are suffering loss. xx
