A Walk in the New Hampshire Woods

Come along with me and we will take a little walk
in the woods of New Hampshire.

On our recent trip to New England, we had been confined
to airplanes, vehicles, hotel rooms and the city.

We were yearning for the peace and beauty of nature
and after stopping at a quaint country store,
we noticed this little sign along the road.....

Intrigued and wishing to stretch our legs for some fresh air,
we stop to investigate.

A large stone marker leads the way.
Once the site of an old mill.
Let's take a look!

There was no sign of the mill,
but we had this spot all to ourselves, so we took a walk.

It was a lovely morning with soft sunshine illuminating
the autumn leaves.

A placid stream meandered along, glinting in the sunlight.

But signs that this little stream is not always so gentle
lie midstream.

A giant boulder marks the midpoint.
Did it roll down from the bank above, -
was it part of the old mill -
was it brought downstream from some long ago flood?
We will never know......

Beauty surrounds us as we stroll along.

It is so quiet we hear the leaves fall as we walk.

A blue jay gives a warning cry as we
invade his territory.

Small twitters reply.

A pale birch leans into the sun.

The last of the wildflowers....

Heart shaped leaves of Oxalis.

Acorns and Oak leave a pungent scent.

Dappled sunlight through pines.

Soft moss.

My Ramblin' Man strikes a contemplative pose.

A lovely picnic spot.

A serene view.

Remnants of an old stone wall.

Time to head back.....

One last glimpse.

On the road again.

I hope you enjoyed taking this walk
in the beautiful New Hampshire woods,
 Dear Friends.

Next time....

We stay at a sweet sister's charming home.

I hope you will join me.

xoxo

  14. Good Morning, Karen!
A little before 8 here in Maryland, and I have already walked all over Riverside Park with you! :)

I loved the picture of the acorns and oak leaves on the forest floor. Those muted colors resonate deeply in me. And so did the photo of the remains of an old stone wall. Places like that make me wonder what the building was, who lived or worked there, why did they pick this spot to build. Was this place that is now being reclaimed by nature once bustling with human activity? Places like that always get me to wondering...
