A Week of Thanksgiving

Hello, Dear Friends, I hope that your weekend
was restful on this week before Thanksgiving,
here in America.

My weekend started out with a horrible migraine -
something I have suffered with since I was a young girl.

I took this photo early in the morning,
and it reflects how I was feeling inside my head.

On Sunday I was feeling better and able to go to the market
for Thanksgiving supplies. (We are going to my daughter,
Jennie and Steve's beautiful home to celebrate with the family)
I am tasked with baking the pies :) Apple -
 a family favorite.

My country lane is lovely this time of year with fallen leaves
carpeting the road.

Come along with me and we will travel the country roads
to see the last of the autumn leaves on our way to the market!

I travel this road several times a week, as it is the same
road I take to babysit my little grandson.

I especially love this scene, as it reminds me of an old world
painting with its slanted tree and weathered barn.

Black cottonwood and big-leaf maple turn
a gorgeous yellow-orange this time of year.

Luckily, there is very little traffic and the speed limit
is slow, because I am certainly taking my eyes off the road
to soak in the scenery!

A lone black cottonwood stands out.
These are extremely large and fast growing trees,
not suitable for suburban landscapes.

Birds on a wire - these symbolize all of us at times -
hanging on for dear life while strong winds blow.
xoxo

A pastoral scene.

The countryside is dotted with Hawthorne trees, full
of red berries, which the birds love.

A red-roofed barn under moody skies.

Foothills, fall color, and white fencing.
Love <3

Horses living in fall beauty
as we near home.

We arrive at the driveway gate amidst falling leaves.

Home again.

Late afternoon sunlight, outside the window, as we
bring groceries inside.

Putting away the groceries in my pantry
cupboard,

I am reminded how truly blessed I am.

My cupboards are full, I have a cozy roof over my head,

And God's beautiful earth all around me.

But the things I am most grateful for
are not things........

They are family.

xoxo

And sweet blogging friends like you!

Happy Thanksgiving, Dear Friends!

xoxo

  2. Lovely photos, love the view from your house. Sorry to hear you've been suffering from a migraine. Our daughter gets them as did her Grandmother my Mother-in-law. She has something that she injects herself with when she has one. It doesn't make the migraine go away, but it makes it bearable.

  6. So sorry to hear that you suffer from migraines. My Dear and eldest son get them, too. So thankful that we have beautiful country roads to travel and that we have 4 seasons to enjoy. I am thankful for God leading us up here from California many years ago. I do hope you have a very peaceful and wonderful Thanksgiving gathering. Blessings!

  7. What a lovely post, Karen, filled with thankfulness. Your Autumn trees are still hanging on, and there's nothing like seeing a white fence on a country road. Some of these pictures look like paintings, they are so pretty. I loved the comparison with "birds on a wire." Oooo, apple pie sounds scrumptious for dinner. I'm getting over this awful cough, so it will be a quiet one this year making Cornish hens, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries, and pumpkin pie. : ) What a wonderful saying on your pantry cupboard. Yes, so much to be thankful for today........and always. I'm grateful for your friendship throughout the years, Karen, and your sweet genuine posts.

  12. Wonderful views, as those you share with us always are.
I needed to google the black cottonwood. Such an interesting tree. Its Finnish name is "giant poplar". :)
Wishing you good health, and a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! xx

  13. Hello, I have had those migraines since I was young too. There are days I feel like staying in bed and pulling the covers over my head. I love your gorgeous views, you have a lovely drive to your daughter's place. Apple pie is one of my favorites too. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Have a happy day and week ahead.

  14. Thank you for that tour. I loved see all the color. Ours here in TN is pretty much all gone, winds, rains and storms knocking the color out of the trees. I am so sorry for the migraines. I suffered for yrs with them until I went on the CPAP machine for sleep apnea. They pretty much stopped after that. They would pretty much take 2 days out of my life for one migraine. Try Peppermint on the neck and the back on the head at the base of the skull. I love apple pie. YUMMY.....course there again, I love most anything sweet!! I love your lovely home.

  17. I endured regular migraines for a decade from my early 40's. They left as mysteriously as they had begun, but I have strong memories of the utter misery.
I'm glad you are up and about again in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The daylight in your photos has a very muted feel, misty and soft.

  22. You have such a wonderful drive that you get to enjoy when you go out, being able to drive slowly and soak it all in is a wonderful thing to have, around here it is busy traffic whenever I leave the house. You still have pretty Autumn colors to enjoy too!
I wish you a lovely time with family!

  23. I'm glad you were feeling better and able to get out. Migraines are so painful! Beautiful photos! It still looks like there is quite a lot of colour around. The leaves are finally falling from the trees in droves and things are beginning to look a lot more bare. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  24. Dearest Karen,
Lovely post, except your migraine of course.
When I was younger I had lots of migraines and had to take a suppository to get rid of the pain. It worked well within 20 minutes but since I have CKD stage 3 I'm no longer allowed to take any over the counter meds. So what do you do?! Relaxing as good as you can, mainly by lying down for half an hour after first drinking lots of water. It often is a sign of dehydration and we don't pay attention to it timely until the body warns us! It helps all the time and is very simple and no side effects either.
Yes, family is very dear and it is scary knowing that Pieter and I are all that is here on this side of the Ocean...
Sending you hugs for a Happy Thanksgiving with your family - ENJOY!

  32. Dear Karen, such a difficult thing to endure the horrible migraines! I am thankful that it passed before Thanksgiving so that you were able to make the apple pies requested by your family. I so enjoyed the drive to market that you get to take, it is truly a gorgeous view! And your driveway is incredible, the leaves are still beautiful there! So amazing to see that! Like you, I'm thankful for slow speed limits on roads where the scenery is so incredible that you have to drive slow enough to soak it all in! I pray you had a blessed and very special time with your family, the most important reason to be thankful for, and I am so thankful that our paths have crossed in blogland :) Many hugs to you today!
